Why renewable fuel?
The cycle of nature
In June 1992 at the United Nations environmental and development conference held at Rio, it was decided, that they would work towards forming a sustainable society i.e. a society built for the adaptation to nature's cycle and recycling. In such a cycle, coal, oxygen and carbon dioxide are the fundamental resources for trees and plants. The trees absorb the carbon dioxide from the air and transform it to carbohydrates that are required for its growth. Simultaneously, oxygen released is used to burn energy in the human body. When the tree is cut or used to improve the species and later burnt with oxygen, carbon dioxide is released.
Oil pumped out from the earth has no such cycle. When used in furnaces or cars, it produces a constant excess of carbon dioxide in the air, thus creating the green house effect.
Carbon dioxide and it's goal
The Swedish Parliament has decided to follow the recommendations of the United Nations conference held in Kyoto in 1997. The excess of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere in the year 2000 should be the same as 1990. After 2000, the emission of carbon dioxide should be reduced, thus obtaining a balance within a short time and a complete cycle. Sweden has greatly reduced the emissions from the usage of oil. Reduction in emission should be mainly from the transport sector. In Sweden, one of the few alternatives to petrol and diesel are bio alcohols to a large extent. Manufacturing of bio alcohols must be based on growing raw material. Forest residue, wood shavings, recycled paper, energy forest, grains and sugar cane are examples of such raw material.
Definition of a complete cycle
Carbon dioxide is essential to everything that grows. Plants absorb coal during photosynthesis and oxygen is released. Later, when the plant dies, coal is released in a natural process. The quantity of emission is not greater than what was absorbed. The bio raw material should be replanted such that the cycle is not broken due to production and combustion of fuel alcohol.
Definition of an incomplete cycle
We are using fossil raw material that was formed millions of years ago and those that existed outside the present cycle of nature. When we use them emissions are formed which are released into the environment. So there is an excess of emission that cannot be transformed in the natural cycle of nature.
