General Resource Potential Energy forest

Resource

Saw dust can be used for driving engines today. During the war, wood shavings were converted to gas and this was used to drive cars, a rather difficult and cumbersome process which does not meet the standards of the environment and health. But if the raw material was processed to ethanol, then it can be blended with petrol/diesel.

Great resources of raw material
Today, Sweden imports 80% of the 110,000 cubic metres ethanol that is used in chemical industries, chemical technical products, human consumption and fuel. According to the Swedish Agricultural University (SLU) the raw material available in Sweden is about 50- 80TWh and it can replace 25 - 30% of the present petrol and diesel consumption. It mainly consists of forest residue from clearing forests, branches, treetops and trees with destroyed roots. Recycled fibre from household garbage and waste is also raw material that can be processed to ethanol.

From an excess of wine and corn
The fast growing demand for fuel ethanol is obtained from the excess in the wine industry, which is imported within the EU consisting of about 400,000 cubic metres of ethanol per year. In Norrköping a plant is under construction, which will manufacture ethanol from domestic grain. If a temporary tax exemption is guaranteed as in France, Sweden can become self sufficient within a short period and also create thousands of job opportunities.
