Approval of the Pharmaceutical Department for the usage of ethanol

For the usage and sale of ethanol, an approval is required from the Pharmaceutical Department in Uppsala. Ethanol that is sold should be denatured with two different chemicals, so that it cannot be used as an alcoholic drink. The purifying process from these two chemicals should not be an easy one. The ethanol used for vehicles is denatured with iso-butanol and MTBE. After which petrol, diesel, or ignition improver is added to the finished product. The pharmaceutical department takes a fee of 6.4 ore per litre for all the ethanol that is sold, including that which is used for the vehicle sector.
